RÉSUMÉ
Deux pêcheurs à la ligne tranquillement assis sentent mordre à l’hameçon et retirent tous les deux le même poisson. Chacun s’en prétendant le propriétaire : dispute, bataille et chute à l’eau des deux adversaires. Un troisième pêcheur survient. Trouvant la place bonne, il s’installe et jette sa ligne. Il sent immédiatement une résistance peu ordinaire et, d’un vigoureux effort, il ramène… quoi ? nos deux premiers pêcheurs qui n’ont pas cessé de se battre. Il cherche tout d’abord à les séparer, mais il en est mal récompensé, car les deux batailleurs retournent leur fureur contre lui et le précipitent à l’eau. Pris de remords, un des deux plonge pour le repêcher ; le second ne les voyant pas remonter ni l’un ni l’autre, plonge à son tour et est assez heureux pour les ramener tous deux à bout de bras. Réconci - liation générale.
D'après Susan Dalton : Two anglers are quietly seated and get a bite. They both pull out the same fish. Each of them claims to be the owner of it which leads to a quarrel and in the struggle, both fall into the water. A third fisher comes on the scene and casts in his line. To his great astonishment, he pulls out the two men who are still fighting. He tries to separate them, but they resent his interference and throw him into the water. Filled with remorse, one of them jumps in after him and seeing neither of them reappear on the surface, the other also follows suit and is lucky enough to get them out, which results in a general reconciliation.
