RÉSUMÉ

Deux gamins connaissant les griefs qui divisent le charcutier et la fruitière, ont imaginé de leur faire une mauvaise farce. À cet effet, ils pendent un paquet de légumes au-dessus de la boutique de la fruitière, attachent la ficelle à la poignée de la porte du charcutier et se sauvent. Celui-ci, ouvrant sa porte, la corde casse et le paquet tombe sur la tête de la fruitière. Ils s’invectivent d’abord, mais la discussion ne tarde pas à dégénérer en pugilat et tandis que la fruitière, armée d’un potiron, en coiffe le charcutier, celui-ci en fait de même avec une tête de cochon.

D'après Susan Dalton : Two street urchins knowing the emnity which exists between the pork butcher and fruiterer determine to see some fun. They tie a bundle of vegetables to a string and pull it up over the fruiterers shop door, the other end of the string being fastened to the pork butcher's door, so that when he comes out the vegetables will fall. It so happens that he comes out exactly at the same time as the fruiterer with the result that the latter gets the full force of the fall of vegetables, a quarrel ensues, a pumpkin being jammed on the pork buther's head and a pig's head on to the fruitere's.
